The installation program on the Alias DVD guides you through installation. Install Alias on each computer where you want to run it.

To install Alias for Mac OS X

If you have a hardware key (dongle), remove it before installing Alias. If it is plugged in during installation, you may see an error message.

Insert the Alias DVD into the drive of your computer.
The contents of the DVD appear in a new Finder window. If the Alias 2010 Finder window does not open automatically, double-click the Alias 2010 disk icon on your Desktop.
Double-click the Alias2010 package icon within the Alias 2010 folder to begin the installation process.
The Alias Installation window appears. You can cancel the installation at any time by closing the installer window.
Click Continue to proceed with the installation.

NoteAt various points during the installation, the installer may ask you to type in the name and password of an administrator account on the local machine.

The Autodesk Software License Agreement appears. You can print or save this License Agreement for future reference. This agreement requires your acceptance for the Alias software installation to continue. If you do not agree to the terms and conditions of the agreement, the installation process does not continue.
Click Continue and then Agree to continue with the Alias software installation.
You are prompted to select the destination where the software will be installed.
Select the volume where you want to install the Alias software and click Continue.
(Optional) By default, Alias will be installed to the /Applications/Autodesk folder of this volume, but you can specify another volume by clicking Change Install Location.
To select which components you want to install, click Customize.

Your choices include:
- Alias_core – You must install this component to use Alias on your computer.
- Alias Documentation – Alias English Documentation. The Alias documentation, which contains reference documentation, and multimedia.
- Autodesk DirectConnect – You must install this component to import specific CAD file formats into Alias and export some CAD file formats from Alias.
- ADC_docs – Autodesk DirectConnect Documentation.
- AutodeskUninstaller – Program for uninstalling Autodesk products.
- Alias_uninst – Shortcut to the Autodesk Alias uninstaller.
After you have chosen Alias components or changed the install location, click Install.
The Alias software and accompanying utlilities are installed on your computer. The progress of the installation is indicated by the progress bar at the bottom of the installer’s window.
When all elements (the application, DirectConnect, documentation, and utilities) have been installed, click Close.
It is not usually necessary to restart your computer after installing Alias. If it is, the installation window will tell you so. Installing a new version of DirectConnect may require you to restart.

Congratulations! You have now installed Alias. But before you can run it, you must install a license. See Licensing Alias in this book.
